Free Social Security Workshops & Seminars

Orange County, Los Angeles, the Inland Empire and live online. Free, open to the public, and nothing is sold.

The Retirement Literacy Foundation teaches free Social Security workshops and seminars for retirees and people approaching retirement in Southern California. Classes meet in public libraries and community centers across Orange County, Los Angeles and the Inland Empire, and live on Zoom for anyone who cannot get there. Each class runs about 60 to 90 minutes and covers when to claim, spousal and survivor benefits, how your benefit gets taxed, and the Medicare IRMAA surcharge. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit: there is no cost and nothing is sold.

Are these Social Security workshops really free?

Yes. Every workshop and seminar is free and open to the public. The Retirement Literacy Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit (EIN 41-5062266); nothing is sold at our classes and no one takes commissions.

Where are the Social Security seminars held?

Live online on Zoom, and in person at public libraries and community centers across Southern California. Past sessions were held in Huntington Beach, Irvine, Yorba Linda, Laguna Niguel, Pasadena, La Cañada Flintridge, Temecula and Moreno Valley.

What do the workshops cover?

When to claim (62, full retirement age or 70), spousal and survivor benefits, how Social Security is taxed through provisional income, the IRMAA Medicare surcharge, required minimum distributions and the 10-year inherited IRA rule, with open Q&A.

What should I bring?

Nothing is required. If you have it, bring your latest Social Security Statement from ssa.gov/myaccount so you can apply the material to your own numbers.
